The history of April fool's Day, sometimes called All Fool's Day is uncertain. There has not a exactly "first April Fool's Day" on the calendar, but the current thinking is that it began around 1582 in France with the reform of the calendar under Charles IX.
The French came to call April 1 Poisson d`Avril, or "April Fish." French children sometimes tape a picture of a fish on the back of their schoolmates, crying "Poisson d`Avril" when the prank is discovered.
